Etsy Monday: TaylorsEclectic

by Lisa on August 6th, 2012

You know folks, I love this job. I love being able to scour Etsy for drool over the amazing shops. And I’m always surprised and amazed at what lovely treasures there are! The perfect example is today’s featured Etsy shop, TaylorsEclectic.

TaylorsEclectic makes wearable art. Pretty cool, right?! What exactly is wearable art you ask? Well, it’s just some of these fabulous items!

First off, my husband said his favorite flower is the calla lily. Isn’t that crazy that he knows what it is?! I digress. Anyway, this lovely Orange Calla Lily Necklace is made of paper! Can you believe that?! And don’t worry about it crumbling, as Taylor ensures “ it has been sealed with multiple sealants so that you can wear it in the rainiest, sweatiest, snowiest climates without fear. It wears like any piece of fine jewelry would.” Fabulous.

And how darling is this Forget Me Not brooch!

Again, I’m utterly amazed at how she combines jewelry and paper. Again this piece is sealed, so there is no fear of it falling apart. LOVE.

This has to be my favorite piece in her shop. I love the colors and the design. I’ve always thought thistles were pretty and this Thistle Necklace is no exception. Oh, side note, her pieces are made of sterling silver. Simply gorgeous.

And, because I couldn’t get enough of just her pieces, I had to get to know her a little more! Here are some questions she gladly answered! Oh, and check out her profile for a little more info if you want to get to know Taylor as well!

1. What was the first piece you ever created?

The first piece that I ever sculpted was a simple pale blue disc necklace. It was my first exploration of paper as a jewelry medium, and despite its’ simplicity, it was an incredibly exciting piece for me!

2. What is your favorite item in your shop?

My favorite piece is always my next piece. My newest pieces always represent some sort of growth to me. Currently, my Rose necklace is my favored design. I began experimenting with the sculptural aspects of the piece about a year ago, and I was able to finally bring the piece to fruition this month. It is one of the most complex pieces I have sculpted, but I love the intertwining of the delicate, sketch-like details and the dramatic, deep color hue.

3. What is your bestseller?

My bestsellers change often, but my Forget Me Not series has been my greatest seller this year. I offer them in a wide variety of colors and design styles. I have been able to sculpt them as necklaces, earrings, rings, and bangles. Most people like how ethereal and light the pieces are. They also sell well to brides and as anniversary gifts.

4. How long does it take to create a typical piece?

When I am sculpting designs, I usually try to ignore the clock! My pieces are very time intensive, and watching the time slip away as I work frustrates me too much. I always think that I should be moving faster, but with the complexity of my work, I can only move as fast as the piece will allow me. Some of my most intricate pieces, such as my butterfly designs, take me a week to complete.

Thanks, Taylor!
